The Gilbert School

Private Day School – Winsted , Connecticut

Founded in 1895, The Gilbert School, a comprehensive independent middle-senior high school, has a unique and compelling history, a dedicated faculty and staff and a supportive community. The school has a comprehensive athletic program and award-winning band and choral music programs. For advanced students, Gilbert School offers AP Course as well as an opportunity to earn college credits from University of Connecticut and Northwestern Connecticut Community College.

The athletics program, which includes extensive modern facilities, is dedicated to helping students develop outside the classroom. It begins with coaches who reflect good practices, including organization, sport-specific skill development, nutrition and conditioning. All student athletes are held to high expectations across all levels for skill development, strategies for success and code of conduct. Athletic trainers and the school nurse work together to monitor physical capability of student athletes. The school offers 18 different sports programs at the high school level.

Gilbert’s award-winning band and choral music programs have been recognized through the Berkshire Festival. Members of the band and chorus have been honored for excellence, winning the Northern Regional competitions and taking All-State Honors. Performing arts stage productions in the 700-seat auditorium and the TV studio provide additional opportunities for students to express their talent. Students can elect two- and three-dimensional art classes and their work is displayed throughout the campus.
